Among violinists and pianists, the tradition maintained clear in to the 20th century with names like Ysaye and Kresiler, Rachmaninoff and Bartok. The only think unusual about the phenomenon is that few brass or woodwind players ever followed suit. Seen in that light, David Hattner's new CD is all the more intriguing. For my part, I am very appreciative for his effort, and I hope the CD encourages other serious clarinetists to make notes and write them down. Simple as that."
